Monkey mind and devotion

Hanuman, the mighty ape that aided Lord Rama in his expedition against evil forces, is one of the most popular idols in the Hindu pantheon. The tale in the epic Ramayana—in which he is assigned the task of locating Rama's wife Sita who was abducted by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Hanuman became a loyal servant to Rama and a commander of Rama’s legions of monkeys. One of Vishnu's avatars is Rama, who was created to destroy Ravana, the evil ruler of Lanka. The worship of Hanuman, symbolizes the worship of the Supreme Lord, for acquiring knowledge, physical and mental strength, truthfulness, sincerity, self-sacrifice, modesty, loyalty, and profound devotion to the Lord.


The monkey god, his mind through great concentration on the Divine, he leaped across the straits to Lanaka and also helped to build a bridge to save Sita, Rama’s kidnapped wife. Hanuman, the mighty ape that aided Lord Rama in his expedition against evil forces.

“Hanuman practiced service as a form of worship through which one can realize God as can be seen in the numerous acts of service to Lord Rama. These acts prove how selfless and devoid of an ego Hanuman was and how deep his devotion ran.

Anjaneyasana provides a glorious opportunity to express and strengthen four different positive attitudes: celebration, humility, courage, and willingness to serve. Think about how you might spontaneously express those attributes. In celebration, we often enthusiastically throw our arms into the air. In humble gratitude for our blessings, we seem moved to bow and bring our hands to our hearts.

The graceful lunge is a full-body prayer all in one movement. Reaching your arms toward the Source that unites you with all of creation, you stretch your fingers to release any expectations, judgments, and unwillingness to accept whatever the experience may have to offer.
